Biography —
As a Shanghai native, (Julia) Haoran Ni received her BA and MA in modern Chinese history at Fudan University (Shanghai, China). Her research interests include food, gender and women, education, medicine and technology in modern China. Currently, she is working on her dissertation, which is entitled “A New Way of Spending Summer: The Localization of American Cold Refreshments in Modern Shanghai, 1912-1965.” Her dissertation project has been funded by the American Historical Association (AHA), the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), the University of Michigan Asia Library, KU’s Hall Center for the Humanities, the Department of History, and the Center for East Asian Studies. Her peer-reviewed journal articles were published in the American Journal of Chinese Studies and Research on Women in Modern Chinese History.
