Degrees

Undergraduate

More than 250 KU students major in History, while still others minor in the field, and for good reason: the Department of History is particularly distinguished in undergraduate teaching. You can take either a B.A. or a B.G.S. in History. The department encourages the B.A. for the foreign language skills you will develop, but does not require it. You may also choose to double-major or pursue a minor in History.

Graduate

Each year, the History Department admits a cohort of talented students to pursue advanced training in our terminal M.A. and combined M.A./Ph.D. program. Our program is distinguished by its innovative curricular structure, which minimizes time to degree and has been emulated by other History graduate programs across the country. The History Graduate program is ranked as a top-20 public university program in the United States, and is the top-ranked graduate program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas.
