Biography

I am a Chancellor’s Doctoral Fellow and Indigenous Studies certificate student interested in the exchange of knowledge and science in Mexico from the late 17th to early 19th centuries. In my work, I consider the role of Indigenous, Creole, and Spanish sciences in the development of national identity, castes, and racialization under colonial regimes.

I graduated with degrees in Spanish and International Studies and a minor in Religious Studies from North Carolina State University in 2015. In July 2022, I was awarded my M.A. in History from NC State. For my M.A. I researched the history of science and colonization in the Atlantic by way of racial taxonomies constructed in the 18th-century Mexican casta painting genre.
