Biography

Studying the environmental history of Japan. My research analyzes the relationship between leisure and the environment through the lens of Japanese sport-fishing from the Edo period into the 1990s. In addition to leisure, I am also interested in how Japan’s post war pollution crisis affected the creation of environmentally conscious pop-cultural products like Godzilla, Gamera and Ultraman in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
