Research

I study the connections between culinary practices and Austrian cultural identity in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Habsburg Austria. I’m particularly interested in how imported foods, including so-called “colonial goods” such as coffee, cacao, and tropical fruits, made their way into Austrian households and shaped Central European culinary culture.
