Liberation in Southern Africa
What, exactly, is liberation? In this co-taught course, we will examine struggles for freedom in the southern Africa region against colonial rule, white-settler domination, and the apartheid regime. We will analyze transnational issues of liberation and resistance and pay particular attention to gender and ethnicity. As a major political event of the twentieth century, the liberation of southern Africa had both local and global consequences.
