Playing with the Past: History in Games and Gaming

Enjoy gaming, especially videogames and/or boardgames? Ever think about how games use history to tell stories and create immersion? This class focuses on games as vehicles for historical storytelling. Throughout the semester, students will play boardgames and videogames to better understand how they use, and sometimes abuse, history. But students will not just play games they will try their hand at game design. By the end of the course students will develop a ‘pitch’ for a new boardgame or videogame highlighting how their game will use history to create an experience for its players!
