Russia and its Empires

This course will introduce you to Russia’s complex and fascinating history as an imperial space, showcasing its ethnic and religious diversity, the relationship between the state and its peoples, the geopolitics of its location between Europe and Asia, and the revolutionary movements that shook Russia and shaped the world around it. Students will learn about the historical experiences that make Russia unique as well as its connections to the broader trends of European, Eurasian, and world history.
