Where are you from?

Lee’s Summit, Missouri

What brought you to KU?!

Many of my family members came to KU so it was always in my blood, whether I knew it or not. Now I am proud to say that I am a third generation Jayhawk!

Tell us why you chose to major in History:

Growing up I was never good at anything STEM, history was the one area where I felt confident with what I was doing. Due to that, history became a passion for me, and it only increased the older I got.

What’s the coolest History class you’ve taken?

Dr. Kent Blansett’s Native Americans confront the European empire is definitely the best history class I have taken. This is because it led me to confirm my biggest interest in history, Indigenous History. Everyone should take at least one Indigenous history class during their time at KU.

Who is your favorite historical figure?

My favorite historical figure is probably Thomas Jefferson. There is a lot that he did wrong, but there are many things that he got right. He is probably the main figure that combines my political science degree, my history degree, and my Indigenous studies minor.

What’s your advice to anyone studying history?

The biggest advice that I can give someone studying history is to find something that you are generally interested in studying. The coolest part of the history department is that all of us are so diverse with the topics we are interested in, yet we still get to work together and support each other in our endeavors.

What do you do in your free time?!

In my free time I attend many student senate meetings as an off-campus senator, I travel across the US as a member of KU’s club bowling team, I play drums in my campus ministry’s band, and go to every KU Volleyball and baseball game that I can make it to.

Favorite Study Spot:

Watson Library, Center Stacks floor 1!

Senior Thesis topic:

My senior thesis topic looks at the Indigenous influence on early American political thinkers. More Specifically I am looking at the Iroquois Confederacy’s influence on Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams.

What are your plans after graduation?

My post-graduation plans are to go to graduate school to study History with a focus in Indigenous studies.
