The 2024 Election in Historical Context

A course for students who take politics seriously and want to think about how we arrived at our current predicament. We will discuss major political issues, party politics, political principles and dispositions, the electorate, campaigning and the 2024 election in historical context.

“There are two ideas of government. There are those who believe
that if you just legislate to make the well-to-do prosperous, that
their prosperity will leak through on those below. The Democratic
idea has been that if you legislate to make the masses prosperous
their prosperity will find its way up and through every class that
rests upon it.” - William Jennings Bryan 1896

“We need a new approach to government; a government that is leaner, not meaner; a government that understands that jobs must come from growth in a vibrant system of free enterprise.” Bill Clinton 1992
