Dr. Godbeer's New Book "World of Trouble" Explores Quaker Life During Revolution
Professor Richard Godbeer's new book "World of Trouble" (Yale University Press), which explores the lives of a Quaker Family during the American Revolution, will be released November 26th.
The book centers around a Philadelphia Quaker couple, Elizabeth and Henry Drinker, who struggle to survive the many unique perils that Quakers faced during the American Revolution. Quakers were perceived as enemies of the Revolution's cause and were vilified and sometimes killed by patriots.
Godbeer offers a glimpse of what life was like for Quakers during this time of great change and upheaval in American history through the story of the Drinkers, and explores the darker sides of the American Revolution.
